Some clients are nice and easy to deal with. Not imposing, very polite. Some get on your nerves. And some reach a special level of infamy that can only be attained by special effort. One of them is Genevieve Fitzgerald.

Caller: Hi, this is Genevieve… Is Linda there?
Me: Sure, one second. *transfers

Linda walks over to my desk a few minutes later. She and Genevieve have a special history, see, and every one of their conversations are special. This one went along these lines.

L: Hi Genevieve, how can I help you?
G: Well, I need to pay my insurance. I think I have seventy nine thousand in my checking account, and the bill’s for eleven thousand two hundred. Actually, it’s a little bit more than that. Maybe three hundred.
L: Alright, well, what’s your question?
G: Will it be okay for me to write the check for that amount?
L: I think so, yes. You could actually write that check seven times and there’d be no problem.
G: Really?
